Jeff, thanks for the compliments on miniMIZE 
As for the problem with "Show Desktop", you need to set the level of the thumbnails to "Pin To Desktop". That should enable the thumbnails to remain on the desktop. Unfortunately it won't miniMIZE the currently non-minimized windows as the windows don't 'actually' get minimized, it's some other sort of effect, similar to the "Win+m" hotkey.
As for the size of the thumbnails, that is completely up to you, there is not rule stopping a particular sized thumbnail from remaining on the desktop.
