Re:[BUG] Cant get miniMIZE to work - 2005/09/16 10:06 More info.

I started my XP Pro system in Diagnostic Mode. Only basic Services and no Startup programs are run. Sort of like Safe Mode but not quite as basic.

One big difference is that Safe Mode uses generic video drivers while Diagnostic Mode uses my ATI Catalyst drivers. And miniMIZE does NOT work in Diagnostic Mode. Interesting.

So this might point to the CAT drivers as the culprit or maybe some setting within them.

IF you could lead me in some direction regarding how miniMIZE is affected by the video subsystem maybe we can get to the bottom of this if you are interested in resolving this. We already know I am not the only one with this problem and there has to be others too.

Re:[BUG] Cant get miniMIZE to work - 2005/09/17 11:35 Hi Gary,

Thanks for trying to track this down, I am interesting in sorting this out. miniMIZE uses basic Windows API functions to capture the window, so AFAIK, there is no particular reason for it not to work with any particular graphics card.

One thing you can try is to open the debug window. Hold down Alt while right clicking on the tray icon and select "Show Debug Window". It should show you each time a window is minimized or restored. At least then we know if it is missing the minimization altogether or if it is the capture that is to blame.

Re:[BUG] Cant get miniMIZE to work - 2005/09/17 12:05 Pressing ALT when right clicking on the try icon produces a menu that flashes very quickly and is very faint and transparent. It does NOT stay put for me to do anything with.

After clicking this way for a while I can eventually see that it does say Debug at the very top of the menu. But like I said I can't get it to stay put.

I wonder if there is some issue with my Taskbar or Tray area in general??? I have done a lot of tweaking to my system but I don't run any shells of any kind or anthing like WindowBlinds.

Is it possible to make a version of miniMIZE that does not sit in the tray? Perhaps on the desktop. Just for debugging purposes. IF this works it might narrow things down a bit.

In the meantime I'll keep on playing around. I always like a good challenge.

Re:[BUG] Cant get miniMIZE to work - 2005/09/17 12:16 OK... Finally got the menu to stay put. I selected Debug Mode and have the window opened on my desktop.

Minimizing windows produces absolutely nothing in the Debug window. It's as if miniMIZE is not even running although Task Manager says it is.

Re:[BUG] Cant get miniMIZE to work - 2005/09/18 01:39 Gary,

There isn't anything wrong with your tray. The reason that it is hard to get the debug menu to stay is because ALT is generally used as a hotkey to get to the menu system in applications, thus if you hold it down too long, it hides the context menu. The best way to consistantly get the debug menu is to press alt, right click the icon and as you are in the middle of clicking, release alt. In other words, try to hold ALT as little as possible.

The reason I used ALT was because most of my beta testers use GeoShell and Ctrl - right click is used for another function by the GeoShell tray. I might try switch the hotkey to shift in the next beta.

Now to your problem. If you're not getting anything in the debug window when minimizing, then it means that miniMIZE has been unable to install it's hook that it uses to determine when a window has been minimized. You should see a similar effect if you try and activate/ deactivate miniMIZE where it is unable to install the hook. I'm not sure why that is, but if we can find that, it should sort you out.

Are you running miniMIZE from startup or are you starting it manually? Are you still using trayit?

Re:[BUG] Cant get miniMIZE to work - 2005/09/18 11:13 I had been away for a while and so couldnt follow the thread. I too use visual styles, but no custom shell or window blinds. Maybe it has something to do with uxtheme.dll?

I tried both the run at startup option and manually running it, but still doesnt work.
